I think very few collectors would buy more than 500 EUR.

One of the great things about a "Pink Smock" is that it is an affordable entry level item that gets collectors interested in the collecting such things.
The reality is that they do not sell for huge prices but they always resell. Given the controversy, I do not think anyone should pay $10000. However, if you are lucky enough to still get one for less than $1000 then you are getting a lot of bang for your buck.
If you catch the bug, you can pay $10000 for a beyond doubt example of one of the other known patterns. Even trade your "Pink" in on it. Dealers will take these if the price is right because they sell.
All comes down to what one will sell for and the other willing/ able to buy at,
Chris

Is that the take away I am reading ?
Owen, you can read into it what you like.
All comes down to how you see your glass in the morning, half full or half empty ? You seem to be a "half empty" person.
I give the same advise to people about Tropical billed M40 caps. The second models with sweatband, RB numbers and 1943 date are excellent entry level caps around the $1000 to $2000 price range. One can study, learn, absorb.
Then if they get bitten by the bug, they can trade their trop. M40 second model in on a 1940-41 soutached example in the $10000 to $15000+ range or a soutached 1942 type in the $5000 to $9000 range. Their choice how much money they want to pay for an X-factor hat. However, the second models are still worth having in a collection and every bit as interesting. They just sell for less because there are more out there, than the early ones (plus the lack of the early Afrika factor)
The reality is, many collectors who go on to build up nice collections of tropical caps often start with a humble 1943 second model. Unless they are lucky enough to stumble upon a sleeping 1940-41 or want to pay the best part of $15000 in the first place
No different for SS camo smocks. All comes down to what one starts with verses what they finish with.
The "Pink Smock" is a good thing to get if the price is right but not everyone's cup of tea,

Wow, if I got it wrong and you are finally seeing the light that the "Pinks" (Silver Birch ?) are made before May 1945 then please accept my apology Owen,
That would certainly help to fill up the glass,
Chris

Keep drinking the Koolaid in your half full glass..........
Oh no that means you only have 5 minutes to live.
Pink lemonade
Pink Champagne
Sounds like a bit of a Pink pattern thats causing a seller to sell his Pink jacket on the E-stand for $1500.
And the Champagne paint jobs are also rubbish.
Connect the faking dots.
uuuuummmm.

It is the complete opposite for a "Pink Smock" (Silver Birch). The more you analyse them the more you find that it is period, before May 1945 and real.
However if you can present the facts like Doug did as to why things are not right then please do so. I have lost count of how many times we have asked for this

Yes indeed! The Champagne airbrush insignia was essentially vetted into the mainstream and truly a "textbook" variation because the right authorities said it was so. There were those who disagreed and they were generally considered troublemakers and not in the know.
These smocks are the same, but 180 degrees reversed. The experts declared them fakes when they appeared and in effect (via their reputations on the line and their egos) issued a CONA (Certificate of non-authenticity) on these. They can never back down at this point as insistence is their last refuge.
Some great discussions were had at a large recent show over this aspect of collecting and more importantly SELLING any collectable. Being considered an authority is KING when it comes to selling higher end items....in ANY collecting field. When dealers bless or damn and item there is no turning back for most of them....at least not without a price.Last edited by phild; 12-08-2015, 12:03 AM.

The helmets are different.
Its a master con.
They came with a book to prove they were real.
The community fell for it.
The pinks were shown in an English book in the 80s and the B@W picture in a book I forget.
The advanced guys did not like them.
They still don't.
Its NOT EGO.
The hobby is bigger than any one group of guys.
The item either stands or falls.
Pink fell more than 20 years ago.
Plain and simple.

Like your weird Pink Cult posts.

My posts are not a patch on your posts when it comes to "weird" Owen.
Your the one telling the "Kool aid" stories.
However, can we please have less of the bizarre and instead, some proper analysis like Doug's from you. Given your level of expertise in the matter, how hard is it to met this request ?
