No I don't. I recall that is was nicely bound in black imitation leather hardback fairly thin and smaller in format. At least this is what I think that I recall from nearly 20 years ago.

A couple here in town had the book and I read selected parts of it at thier home for about 1/2 an hour or less, just focusing on the uniform shop experiences. The woman who owned the book was from France and her father had survived a year or so in Dachau. He was in a very famous photo of the prisoners reaching through the wire on liberation...he was center stage so to speak. He was sent there due to his partisan activities and she was around 16 years old during 1943/44. She remarked that the family did not harbor any ill will toward the Germans and that she had ridden in a train car with a group of SS officers one evening in France and they insisted on escorting her home because of the street crime problem in that part of France at the time.

Gentlemen,
The button holes are not reinforced with cord or anything else, the sewing is quite tight and "Fluffy". What you see in the pictures other than the tread, is endparts of the cloth underneath.

'Thanks for the clarification. The button hole looked "corded" (especially on the left side). The right side looked like the cord had come apart and the camo material was exposed. I guess that's why fotos are not great for making definitive decisions on certain items!

You are right, photos are just guidlines, we have to keep an open mind and hands- on inspection is critical in many cases. We know a lot from people who has laid down a lot of work trying to document the historical items - I am shure we will discover and recognise "New" items in the future.

I think the important thing is, we have to realise that the camouflage of WSS was experimental during the whole period.

Pohl, and other senior ranking SS members has to our knowledge developed a huge amount of different camouflage - in less than 10 years, we have documented:
- SS VT Block pattern.
- Polyspot pattern.
- Platanenmuster 1 - 6 Prewar
- Platanenmuster 1 - 6 with Oakleaf 3 colour underlayer basis. Wartime.
- Oakleaf 3 colour as basic underlayer for Platanenmuster.
- Oakleaf "A"
- Oakleaf "B"
- Oakleaf "Pink" ?????????????????????
- Blurred Edge, different underlayer print.
- Variagated Pattern ( ref. last Beaver Book)
- Palmtree.
- Peapattern.
- Leibermuster ( Einheits tarnmuster )

Im not up to my best right now, but if you look at the different camo they have produced in under 10 years, Im shure we havent discovered all original wartime patterns from WSS.

Of course, we have to be sceptical and follow the guidlines from 1940s according to cloth construction, sewing metods, labor skills and so on, but we have to keep an open mind for different items wich apply to wartimes construction and cloth.

I am bringing this thread up to the top again because it is an un-answered question. I know there is a very strong group of collectors who have made their minds up but to my way of thinking it is wiser to keep an open mind on this one. We may never know for sure one way or the other.

Any way this has been an interesting thread and when "phild" started talking about "Ravensbruck" recycled tunics and the book about the poor lady who worked there and had to sew pockets etc. The recall talked about how she hated the job of sorting out the battle worn ones, many soaked in blood etc to decide what should be rebuilt and which to be broken down for parts.

When I read this, I thought we have an example of one of these "Ravensbruck" rebuilt SS tunics here in New Zealand and I wondered how many members had ever seen one so I have asked a friend to post images for all to see.

Keep watching he is working on it now and should have them up soon.

Might get some discussion going if nothing else,
