    "Pink" smock or not?

I have been offered these as wartime souvenirs (smock and assorted items) by the son of an 82nd Airborne veteran. I have verified that his dad was indeed in the 82nd (Div.HQ) during WWII.
However, the smock comes across to me on these pictures (the only ones I have received so far) as one of the (in)famous "pink" smocks. Since I'm not too well versed in SS camo I thought it would be better to seek opinions here before I leap. Hopefully someone will be able to help me out here.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    Merry Christmas to all.

          smock

Well, if the helmet and belt is real, and you only intend to pay this guy a small token of appreciation, from a friend, how could you go wrong?

However, if it's another "Son of a Vet" selling his dad's stuff at actual market prices, you might be better off not believing him.

My Dad was a Vet and I am a collector so if I sell you something technically It could be from the Vets son
            : )

Ben you have to be very clear about the "Vets son" situation when you write it here because if your not everyone else will make up your story for you and confusion will set in.

It would be very interesting if this lot truly was captured by an 82nd vet so please learn the details...if it was then posting it for opinion is uneccessary.Posting it to show would be another story and worth a discussion only after we know the details.

Hmm, very touchy subject these "brick red Tarnhemd" are! I don't have an opinion one way or the other on them but the stahlhelm, that I would most certainly like to see a close up of. I'd love to weigh in on that!

John et all, thank you so far for replying and helping out!

                  John,
recently a full 82nd provenance'd officer group was bought by a close friend of mine directly from the veteran's son. This included his Class A's, wartime documents, etc.. It was, for what it is, bought for next to nothing. Prior to the purchase we researched the grouping and it all penned out exactly as the man had said. The man had served as an officer from '43 till '46 in the 82nd AB.
Whilst in the process of purchasing the US grouping he also offered for sale his dad's wartime souvenirs to my friend who does not collect German at all which is why he asked me. It included a hoard of belt buckles, canteen, a Heer sword as well as the photographed items. Although seeing that the other items were real as far as I could see from the pictures provided, I thought the smock to be one of the much discussed "pink" variation, hence my questions regarding the smock. If it is a "fake" , as many think they are, than what is it doing in there, furthermore, what does that say about the "story" concerning the German items. It made me suspicious in any case about the German stuff. Whether the son or the father ever collected or that the smock was acquired after the war I couldn't say but the smock to some extent seems to indicate that in my opinion. Nothing is impossible I guess.
More close-ups have been requested of the other items

You could buy something from me... I'm a (Vietnam) Veteran!!! You'd be surprised how many of these guys ended up buying stuff after the war. I've had a number of friends who try and dig stuff out and they find all kinds of reproductions -- either total or mixed in with some original stuff. You have to always be careful.

I have never had a problem with the 'pink' smocks. Some don't believe them, some do.

I have 2 which are made of the same color material. Robert Noss said one is original (pattern, assembly, etc) and the other is the infamous 'pink' smock. Both were bought out of the same pile, from Johannes Floch, back in the early 1980s, if my memory is correct.

Do a sewrch on 'pink smock' and you will read the various theories on these garments.

                          Thanks Bobwritz,

I have purchased many a fine US/German group directly from veterans and families in my time and sometimes still do. I also have experienced families stating that a vet took something with him from the war (mostly insignia or medals, the small stuff) whilst being a post war copy. These were mostly people with a sincere lack of knowledge on the matter and I could hardly blame them for thinking what they did. However, this one sure has me doubting because of the presence of this particular smock, as well as what the group consisted out of, hence my questions whether it was a true "pinky" as I'm not into SS camo cloth at all.

Bob, I did and I'm divided on what they really are, although I have asked for close-ups I think all things considered I will pass on it all. It's too much of a free-fall on this one.

                            Johannes Floch?

Johannes Floch? Did not his name give rise to the colletors saying "You have been Floched", due to his ability to reproduce badges?

You know, Ben... you should always go with the "GUT FEEL"... you might miss something once in awhile, but for the most part, the gut will keep out of serious trouble.
