    EM SS Runic Collar Tab

    Dear fellow collectors,

I have shopped for over a year to find the SS runic tab to match my numbered dagger. I was able to find the perfect one for me through reading these forums and have purchased the tab pictured here.

    Questions I have are;

    1) Is this an early tab due to the construction of it?

    2) Is the RZM tag appropriate for the tab and does this tab look to be "good" or "original"? (Yes, I know the SS Forums get a lot of requets on this, but I researched a lot before I purchased and asked for your feedback so please fire away with your comments and bear with me...!)

    3) How come some SS runic tabs had black and white piping around the tab? I know white/silver means an officer, but what does black and white mean? Reserve? Does this also have some bearing on the number ciphers that were added to some tabs to designate the unit they were from?

    4) Any other information you can share with me about this tab or how it was contructed or where it was made would be awesome!

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Sincerely, a fellow collector that enjoys non-mint militaria with a story...

    Carson

    Dear Carson,

IMHO this is a nice and original tab with the correct tag on it.

    Best regards,

I also think its a nice very well worn salty original tab!

I would say its from the early war years, 1941-1942. Its been there and thats nice!

I assume you mean the silver black alternate twisted border tabs? As for the silver/black piped rune collar tabs they were for the SS VT enlisted to NCO. Please check a common book as Angolias SS cloth insignias to answer most of your questions.

Ofcourse your rune tab from Weitze (sorry ) could be a matching tab to a dagger, but I would prefer an earlier tab in a slighty more well preserved condition. IMHO your tab would do better with a salty Waffen SS combat cuff title

        Cheers,

Wow, lots of new info to me Felix! Thank you very much.

I will try to track down a copy of the Angolia's book, as I enjoy learning more about the hobby. I appreciate giving me the heads up on it. I am asking as I have a period studio photo of an SS Mann with the black/silver piping on his runic tabs with the number one embroidered beside the SS runes.

My secret is out, my Swedish detective friend.... I did get this from Herr Weitze. Premium price for a premium prioduct and I am very happy with my purchase as it was exactly what I was looking for! (I spent months and months trying to nab one on the e-stand, but they were always snapped up!)

I also appreciate your advice on the combat cuff title, but I had a dealer friend of mine turn me to the "dark side" of the force (SS collecting) and I have the saltiest SS Dagger ever acquired. This is a little due to budget considerations and also because I enjoy pieces that speak to the period from use in the field or neglect following WWII by the veteran. In all my collecting, I enjoy the "feel" of the item that allows me to touch history. I know, I am a hopeless romantic...

I was fortunate with this purchase as I bought it during the peak of the Canadian Dollar, so it was a bit more reasonable price wise.

Does anyone have a picture of an earlier SS tab or can point me in the general direction? I appreciate the info for my abrupt learning curve on tabs!
