Great coat

Hi,
Had this coat longer than i care to remember came as seen again from a local man that worked at a pow camp .he collected all sorts over the years.
all insignia had been removed prior to him obtaining it ,was it common to see collors and cufftitles on great coats,
the collors appear to have been off longer than the other insignia as were they have been has become dirty from use,it appears not to have been worn much after the others were removed.

makers label,the whole coat is very dirty but it would be a shame to clean it .

Hi Merdock,

Nice Great coat. SS insignia was worn on the great coat pre war and up until about 1940, as with every thing you see insignia on great coats beyond this date even though it was forbidden by regulation but is the exception rather than the rule. The early style of coat would suggest early capture of the uniform and soldier perhaps 1940 or in Greece in 1941. I do not speciffically know of any SS units stationed at Aachen, but some more knowledgeable Forum members may provide this detail. The label would suggest a tailor made NCO or officer Coat as does the material.
