I would say it looks more like "dealer to add a story to a fake" damage. I never saw moth or mouse damage like that.

I bought it off of ebay several years ago, for about $15.

JL - please elaborate on why you think this diamond (or what's left of it) is a fake. I believe it is original.

Anyway, let's see some postings - anyone else have some moth eaten ss cloth?

I know nothing technical about this insignia. Maybe its good, I dont know, but the damage looks very suspicious to me.
To say the truth, I dont know how you could possibly tell how such a simply made insignia is period or not, witch is why I dont usualy post on the SS forum.
