                  Okay, I realize I may be asking this at the risk of sounding stupid, but what is a zelt? In the spirit of learning, I'm sure it's just better to ask.

                    It's a shelter quarter.

                        Zelt = tent
                        Zeltplane or Zeltbahn = shelter quarter (translater says tarpaulin too)

                          Kameraden,
                          The colors on this zelt are very crisp indeed. I have a question about the construction. By the fotos the button holes appear to be straight cut, like the button holes on a shirt. On all my German zelts (SS as well as Heer) all the button holes are keyhole cut, not straight. I realize the oak zelts were one of the latest produced patterns for zelts but the oak I have has keyhole shaped button holes.
                          How common were straight cut button holes on WW2 German zelts??

                          Sepp

                              Besslein,
                              Thank you for your reply! A later war simplification, that makes a lot of sense! The pattern, the material, and the grommets all looked great. Those button holes just threw me.

                              Thanks,
                              Sepp
