Here is a question. We all know that these sets are phony, but does anyone know who is still selling these, for them to be appearing in such a large number? I searched the internet, and have not found one place selling these as repros? maybe there should be a thread pinned listing all the sellers who are actively selling, or producing these wanna be Assman insignia sets.

I believe these are being purged from older collections, rather than being newly produced. Thanks in part to information only recently made widely available via the internet (inluding through forums like this one), collectors are learning that some of the items they have had in their collections for years and believed to be original are, in fact, fake.

I am guessing that the surge in this style of fake (as well as the Austrian 360 and 380 fakes fom the 80's) hitting the market lately are from newly-enlightened collectors cleaning up their old mistakes. Some are unloading them on other unsuspecting collectors; others are selling them as fakes, only to see them bought by crooked dealers who then sell them as originals.

These copies came out in the 1980s or so...no such skulls existed...but the eagles were copied from this real style:

                    and this:

John, you are correct, in that they were trying to reproduce the design of Wagner, (475). However, these reproductions are from completely remade dies and were not cast off of an original eagle, so there are plenty iof differences from the originals/. Also, this one appears to be a second generation fake, (or whatever you call it), that was cast off of one of the first generation fakes, (originally having the SS 360 marking and made of aluminum).

                      Best, Chris
