Flag Day in the East

I thought some of you Totenkopf fanatics might like this Fahne.

I'm thinking this is a very early image of the Flossenburg quarry, but can anyone nail down the date?

Hello MJC:
Technically not fahnen (soldier trooped unit flags - see SS corner patch fahnen examples in photo background below), but still a very cool SS field site flag photo! I have no clue where your posted photo is from, but if you or anyone else see the black shovel flag also shown below I would very much like to hear about it.

Yes definitely Flossenbürg quarry, here are the ruins of Flossenbürg fortress and the image photo corrected for contrast and levels.

thanks for the clarification of terms! The image came from Theo Eicke's personnel file. Is the spade flag original or is that still up for debate? It would look great in my office!

MJC:
The spade flag is no doubt an original circa WW2 flag as it has a pre-WW2
German flag company makers label on it, and is 100% wool rather than a post WW2 nyla-wool bunting material blend. What is still up for debate, awaiting period photo confirmation, is if the spade flag is SS or from some other Nazi labor organization? The spade flag is of the same shade of white and black as my large double SS lightning bolt rune lager flag - like the one shown flying in your Eicke file photo. Thus, what the spade flag is exactly, I am still seeking to find out more about.

MJC, thanks for sharing, and side by side with the runic flag, great shot.

Now, if you ever get tired of that photo...... .

                  Best
