Andy - here is a tip. Put that thing on the estand and see how many offers you get.

      Martin,
The thread has not been manipulated just off topic post removed by the moderators so the discussion can continue.

And as a second thread was started they were both merged to keep the discussion in one place
      cheers

Why was Bob Hritz's comment on the cap insignia removed? This was definately relevant to the discussion,

Because it contained comments which related to deleted post's, but the post is back now minus those .

Now lets here why you and Martin think this cap and insignia are real

Late to the discussion but nevertheless is the cap in question supposed to be a Dachau variety?
More pics? Sorry, I saw the link to the cap in question. STampings on the lining alone would cause me sufficient concern to discount this as an original SS OR Heer cap, for the obvious reasons. Just my opinion. Given that, I wouldnt really give the rest of the caps attributes much thought.

Personally, I think that the both of you (Andy & Martin) are living in denial.

There have been sufficient doubts expressed by some very knowledgeable forum members, to lay this thread to rest. As previously stated, if you are both happy with the item, then there is no need for the discussion to go any further. Keep it and try to enjoy it.

But please, try not to convince the forum members that it is something that it isn’t. I just hope that you have bought it to keep, and not pass it on to some unsuspecting novice collector.

              Best
              Bob

I'm willing to do an impartial hands on inspection of the cap if Andy wants to post it to me. I could take some more detailed photos too.
Won't be able to comment on the eagle though, don't know anything about printed ones.

                      Well

That hat is just awful. Want to save money? Collect Hummel figurines.

Aren't those the figurines of cutsey little kids?

Ben, that is an excellent idea,

We need someone with some substantial knowledge who could act as an impartial judge and lay this one to rest. Any one volunteer? Perhaps we could all learn something

Tony you may be interested to learn that the profits from the sale of the very successful porcelain Hummel figures were used to provide funds for German children orphaned as a result of World War Two.

Many of these children were from former SS families. Their fathers had been killed in the war or were prisoner of war. Sadly in some cases their mothers meet some particularly nasty fates because of their association and connection with the SS. All of the conquering powers of Nazi Germany declared the SS illegal and condemned their families to hell. Some individuals went out of their way to avenge what the SS had done in the worst possible ways for example Czechoslovakia late 1945 and well into the early 1950's.

so these little "cutsey" Hummel figures may have been one of the few rays of hope and source of funds that the off-spring of the elite of the thousand year reich may have had help from in a post May-45 world.

Another thing, is the fact that some Allied soldiers chose to bring home Hummels figures from the occupation of Germany along with the war booty. This is what created interested esp. in the USA and export orders for a new West Germany.

In a funny or cutsey sort of way Hummel's have a place in the history of collecting Militaria and keep in mind that they were first seen at a trade fair in Leipzig 1935 so they must have qualified as approved art by the party. Production was put on hold during the war and porcelain tank identification models were made at the factory instead. Pre-war and war-time Hummels are sought after today.

May-be I should have just talked about the SS Panzer M43 but hey its all been said or not said, Chris

                                Hahaha

See Tony, you should not be so cheeky and laugh at my collection of Hummel figurines. They represent hope !!! I think I will place a few in my collection cabinet next to some TK insignia, of course I will only use the most aggressive ones !! Well time to throw on my "Hugo Boss" suit and go to work.
