When we are talking about SS contract numbers, "155" was Assmann. "499" was Zimmermann. "475" was Wagner. "254" was Deschler. "394" is unknown.

As for the materials used for the later style eagles and skulls, they were all either CupAl, aluminum, or zinc, except for the earliest Deschler skulls which were made of Tombac/brass.

Also, "RZM" codes are different from the SS contract numbers listed above.
Sometimes you will have an "M1/" and sometime not, but here are the good RZM codes for SS cap insignias of the later styles.

    52 - Deschler
    M1/52 - Deschler
    M1/72 - Zimmermann
    M1/17 - Assmann
    M1/24 - Overhoff
    M1/167 - Hicke
    M1/8 - Wagner

    Hope this helps!

      Hi Chris,

      Thank you.

Is there any form of resemblance between 394 produced and either Hincke or Overhoff produced? Would seem likely that already established RZM producers would get SS contracts.

Do you have any infornation on insignia stamps other than with RZM or SS contract numbers (GES GESCH, unmarked, other)?

      Thanks again.

      Cheers, W

Although perhaps difficult based on this photo alone..(for the moment the only one I have); but can anyone give his opinion about this set?

        Thank you.

The eagles that are marked "394" are not just like any other known original.
These eagles are unique and were probably made by one of the very first manufactures to have made them. There is no known reason as to why some makers used their SS contract code and/or the RZM code, or even other types of markings. They were not consistent with marking styles.
Regulations and things changed a lot over the many years that these were made.

As for the other types of markings, these are known:

"GES. GESCH." - (skulls made by Assmann)

"RZM GES. GESCH. D.&S.M." - (skulls made by Deschler and similar skulls can be found without the D.&S.M.)

          "S. P. 40" - (skulls by unknown maker)

          "E. S. P. F." - (eagles by unknown maker)

"unmarked" - (some of the eagles that were made by Assmann, Overhoff, and one other unknown maker)

As for the insignia in the picture, the skull is a good zinc Overhoff,
but I can't see enough of the eagle to make a sure judgment.

          Chris

Thank you Chris, will try to get some better images later. It had all the good looks. Together with the cap it surfaced in Holland.

were there unmarked authentic Deschler skulls?

              bringing this most excellent thread back with a question;
Did any Deschler skulls get produced without ANY markings on back?

              Thanks for any help,
              MF

I just noticed that we are missing an entire area of "Metal SS Cap Insignia"...

Let's see some TK buttons! Here's my painted unmarked example that just came in.
