Yeh Right, I can see them now driving home in their exspensive Beemers and Mercs paid for by the gullible SS collectors.

John, really like your restoration project! Look forward to seeing the finished product. Also, like you, an authentic W-SS field service tunic is my favorite, just harder than hen's teeth to come by, at any price

        Thanks,
        George

Yes, I'll also be happy to see that tunic restored, as well... I'm currently thinking of restoring one myself.

                W-SS tunics

I am not a W-SS tunic collector, but interestingly follow the discussion everytime they come up. I also lived for many years in Hamburg, knowing most traders personally, even visiting them at their homes.

I agree a lot with what John Pic has to say in this and many previous threads. He has a healthy attitude towards the "dillema" of touched and un-touched tunic, as I might want to call it.

I cannot think of a single trader outthere not having offered, sold and taken back a retailored piece. Either retailored by them or a job done previously with them relizing the work done on a tunic or not. This applies in proven cases to dealers such HW, KW, BS, SW, etc., etc.

Kai Winkler actually had a very, very fine private collection of W-SS tunics which I saw at his home probably about 2 years before the internet and before he went out to sell it all, like he used to do with many nice items after having enjoyed them long enough and after they have increased significantly in price in order to part from them again. The stuff was very, very nice - Just the way Kai Winkler likes things: High End.

I remember one very advanced member of this forum who finally got a "Wiking" officers tunic with a very rare cufftitle from Winkler, being 120 pct. satisfied and greatful.

You just cannot condem an item just because it comes from one guys website and because on or another thing has been wrong in the past. That is absolutely immature imo.

I owned a tunic out of Kai's good stuff, absolutely gorgeous tunic,no signs of tampering what so ever. But being new to the internet at the time and never having met any of "the big names" participating on the forums I allowed myself to be swayed by the ideas that Kai had a secret Army of oopmpa loompas as magical tailors sewing together perfect minty fakes.I sold it to cleanse the doubt planted and believe me the buyers were very eager so I couldnt figure it out if they couldnt tell as experienced as they were how the heck did the forum guys know?I sure as hell couldnt tell but I wanted to trust the nice guys who were certain he was doing this. Since Kai has sold all of his nice tunics not one other has appeared on his site that compairs so he obviously isnt having them made up. You live and learn and being on the forums you really learn that experience means nothing when applied to everyone it is an individual gift.
