While not a collector of WWII items, I was offered this SS stickpin and would like to see what the experts think...I can return it if bad so please don't worry about hurting my feelings if it is. Would also appreciate a price range on it as well..Thanks in advance for the help. Mike

I think it would be fair to say that if you are looking for a textbook original, then I would pass on this one.
Normally, these badges consist of the badge and a pin assembly. The one you have posted has not got the pin assembly that I would expect to see and appears to be set in the back of the badge.
The main body of the pin you show looks like it is a two part construction. I am not sure if this is just your photograph, so perhaps you can confirm this for me.

The badge does look original,the way the pin itself is affixed to the badge is different to the way they normally are,perhaps it has been reapplied after breaking?
Without doubt there are fakes out there.
Come on there are well qualified collectors looking at this give us a definitive opinion.

I have not got too much of an issue with the pin assembly as the original could have broken off and then been repaired, albeit very poorly.
What I do have an issue with is the actual construction of the badge. It is a two part construction and I have never seen this before in one of these badges. The main body of the badge was constructed from one piece of metal and not two. The pin assembly was then attached separately.
I collect these type of pins and I have compared it with many examples in my collection of ones issued before the number shown and ones issued afterwards and it is totally different in construction. That to me says that all is not well with this example.
I am not sure why a manufacturer would change production methods completely for a short run and then return to the usual method.
From the photographs, it almost looks like something resembling a dagger button has been stuck onto another backing. It is difficult to tell from the images and perhaps Mike can give me a little more detail. It could be, however, that the photograph gives the badge this appearance. I am not sure.
