    SS edelweiss set

    Hi,

just 2 SS edelweiss from my collection, which i believe they are fine. I am into gebirgs truppen stuff and besides a brief analys and a quick check with wood lamp i did not consider other things. Anyway,a collector raised the objection that I should check them towards a light, and if I see through some small holes near the sewings, they would be bad.
Does it make any sense to you? I'm not really much into SS stuff and I'm curious about it.
The cap edelweiss has small holes near the sewings, for your reference, but it looks in line with those i previously saw also here and classified as Dachau finds. But I may be wrong!
    Here are the insignias :

      Both are 100% ok.

Real ones of these are obvious and have distinctive characteristics.
      As these do.

The holes if evident, are cause by the tightness of the embroidery. This was dictated by the calibration of the loom(tightness of the pull on the emroidery thread) and the thickness of the base material.Denser material such as wool will show less holes and felt bases will show more.

It has absolutely nothing to do with originality. Its all down to several factors.

If you have a friend who needs to rely on looking for holes, rather than seeing what obviously makes these genuine, then im sorry but he doesent know much about these.
I get a bit sick of these collector falseism,s that have no basis and only confuse collectors.

Rubbish stories like that are one of the contributors to why some people have so much junk in their collections.

      regards Keifer

        Hi BKG

I quote Kiefer, 100% good, also about your "friend" who doesn't understand a thing about SS Edelweiss .

        Cheers

Hi everybody and thanks for all the posts. I actually did not doubt about the items, but the comment and the "theory" came from an old collector, so i thought it could be something to be discussed here.
As I said privately to my friend (this time without the "") Drapeau Noir, I read alot about these edelweiss before actually purchasing them and crosschecked many pics of original stuff. I think it was not necessary to mention either that these 2 babies came from a reputed and estimated WA member .
But this theory was something to bring up to your attention.
                    Thanks again to everybody
