    original stichted on?!?!

hello i have a little doubt about the early war tunic,s used by the
    ss
some dealers would say all the insigna is original to the tunic
so when you,ve got a m-36 or m-40 tunic with ss-insigna upon it how can you tell it was done that period??

mine thought is wenn you,ve got a very mind tunic that never had a eagle applied

    and never had the litzen
    how can you tell??

    with best regards john

    John,

I own an original M40 tunic with SS period insignia applied. It is in very used condition. The things I would look for are

    1. Is the insignia in the same condition as the tunic, worn to the same degree.

    2. Look for moth tracking that dissappears under applied insignia.

    3. Check very carefully for signs of an army eagle, if the area is fresher than the rest stay away. But note that the SS used army tunics these came from depots with eagles already applied. If you see a previous thread on this Forum about Army officers transferred to the SS you will see a picture I postedc showing a totenkopf soldier wearing an army tunic with a clear outline of where the breast eagle was removed.

    4. Persinal opinion her but stay away from mint M36/M40 tunics with SS insignia.

    Hope this helps

thanks MARK for given your opin onthis supject

      mine thought is also
it is hard to proof as the tunic is in mind condition
with all the insigna,s neatly applied
and there is no sign there was ever a breast-eagle on it

      with best regards john

        John,
I agree with what mark has said above, you have to look carefully at the condition of everything, also a tunic in used condition you find the insignia sinks in to the tunic where it is sewn,
        cheers,
        Gary
