Touch it to your bottom lip and if it feels very cool, it is aluminum. There are very fine copies made of mylar and they have no cool feeling to sensitive skin areas.

I will post three types of original.

The first I I obtained on a visor hat offered as a reproduction. I bought it for the value of the eagle.

A used eagle taken from a wonderful officer M-43 cap by the veteran. His son wanted to play with the hat, so the eagle and skull were removed, not to offend anyone.
