"Textbook" platane Smocks do only exsist in the following combinations:
1/2
3/4
5/6
So if you see 5 there "must" be 6 as well...at least in a textbook piece.
Unlike zelts you will in most cases find one half of the print in 1 the other in 2 or one half in 3 the other 4 or one half in 5 the other in 6. That's the way the patterns were "usualy" printed.

having closely examined very few original smocks, I thought the cuff selvedge is important but wasn't sure what to look for, thanks!
is this type of turn over and sewn style always common on later pattern smock cuffs, or is it just as common to see no turn over, just selvedge? as i'm sure was the case on a 1st pattern smock I owned some years ago?!
