I've seen this type insignia on a number of M42s, including what looked like an original Dachau cardboard-billed type. They seem to be making the rounds - or just a whole bunch of original insignia showed up at one time. Is this a new generation of fake insignia, or is this unlikely pair original? s/f Robert

Skinny M43 eagle and square-head skull?

Having the eagle and the edelweiss on the side of a W-SS bergmuetze or M-43 screams fake at me. The only period picture I've ever seen of it was of Degrelle with a metal Heer edelweiss pinned to the side of an SS M-43. I can't say whether the eagle is original or not, but the 'ensemble' is a put together, IMHO.

I have also recently seen an SS panzer M-43 cap with the same insignia. That left me cold. I would love to examine an unused example of the skull. I am most skeptical about the authenticity.
