Here is a pair of WSS artillery straps I used to own. I purchased them online, but returned them after seeing a similar style in the "Fakes" data base and getting advice from another SS collector. Is there anyone that believes these style WSS straps are in fact original period produced? If so I'd like to hear your opinions as I am trying to learn as much as I can about this confusing aspect of SS cloth collecting.

WSS EM artillery straps - originals or not?

What bothers me about them is the stitching on the backing material being perfect, neat mirrors of each other. It is my understanding that the whole point of this stitching was to piece together scrap cloth to conserve scarce material as the war went on. As such, it seems to me that it should be more "irregular." I understand that the fakers have gotten wise to this "original" feature, and are putting it in the fakes. Just my opinion, and I would love to hear from more knowledgable cloth collectors on this point. I could be overly paranoid here, but in SS Cloth collecting, paranoia is good!"Activity! Activity! Speed! I greet you."

... no other comments? Am I to presume that your silence means that they are indeed original even though they compare identically to these?
