help with BeVo SS arm eagle, real or fake?

    Hi guys-

This has been offered to me and I would like to hear what you think - Good or Bad? I have already shown it to a few experienced SS cloth collectors who's opinions I highly value, but - to keep from influencing any other decisions - before I reveal what they had to say about it I'd like to see what kind of feedback it gets first.

    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

Beautiful original - my favorite style!

I think this one has been discussed before. I seem to remember the very carefully trimmed and folded edges.

              Thanks for the feedback, guys.

I showed this eagle to three other experienced SS cloth collectors who's opinion's I hold in very high regard, and two said that they had reservations - mainly due to the construction/weave and the pattern of the eagle's body. I must admit that when I received the pictures I was 99.9% convinced it was real (the construction, aging/wear, remnants of the RZM tag, etc) but now I am having second thoughts.

I’m not experienced enough with BeVo eagles to make a decision one way or the other, but pictures can be very deceiving. As I said I highly value the opinions of the veteran collectors who helped me out via email. I've been comparing this image to known originals and can find various discrepancies, but can't come to my own conclusion. Nothing beats having the piece in hand, so I've contacted the seller and asked for a inspection period, as I would like to see it in person before passing judgment.

I’ll tell you, SS cloth is a virtual minefield! Hopefully I’ll be able to provide some super-high res detailed scans in a few days.

Thanks again for all your help, guys.

              Rob

and both together for a better comparison, although your example looks like a tropical one so would be a better match for the one above as the thread is somewhat different.
                    cheers

I think you need to find some better experts if the ones you consulted had reservtions about this obviously correct bird.

Any experienced collector should know that the weave of BeVo insignia of the exact same pattern made on the exact same machine will vary somewhat in appearance between lots produced at different times, depending on the different thread material and thickness used in different lots, as well as differences made in machine settings which affect the thread tension.

All of the examples above are original, including the one which started this thread. No question whatsoever.

                        Gary-

Thanks for posting the additional pics.

bwanek1- Thanks for the input. Like I said above, the eagle wasn't flat-out dismissed as fake, but that there were reservations based on the image provided.

Gary's pictures definitely give credence. I'm still learning here and because I have only been collecting SS cloth for a fraction of the time as some of you, I don't have the knowledge and hands-on experience to determine if something is good or bad just from a picture. It's great to have this forum to examine and discuss items like this. My goal is to not only obtain original pieces for my collection but to also gain more knowledge about the items themselves - the construction, materials, variations etc.

It's very difficult for anyone to get started in this area of the hobby. The prices, but more so the huge amount of fakes that plague SS collecting make it very, very intimidating for anyone to take the plunge. That’s why I am thankful for this forum, as well as veteran collectors willing to take the time to share information with the newbies.

                        Rob
