    The first and the last..

    Hello All,

The chap who took the pictures of my camo has provided two images from his collection. He has an extraordinary eye for detail and the two figures (in my opinion) represent the classic early and late war W-SS soldiers.

First - an NCo from about 1940/1941 (as an aside - there is a great story regarding the smock).

Second, a very young soldier in the last days of the Reich.

          Hi Gary,

I will ask - I believe that you have corresponded by e-mail with him before (John M from Ottawa).

Hi Edwin - yes, as with all things dealing with the W-SS. This is a very dangerous collecting field.

            Mike,
Great stuff...pass the cudos on to your friend John. Is this his personal display or was this set-up at a show? Would love to view it in person.

As a SS helmet collector, I particularly like those pictured.

            Cheers,

              Hi Darryl,

This is John's war room - a VERY nice setup. He has been collecting for several years and is, in my opinion, one of the best and most knowledgible collectors of Heer and SS cloth around.

The M40 smock (plane tree #3) was originally mine (in a fit of lunacy I traded it away - damn). It came out of Poland in the early '90s. For what it is worth, I was told by the young man who had it, that it had been taken from a SS clothing depot in Warsaw in the 44 uprising by his grandfather. In the last stages of the fighting, his grandfather had hid it away in his house and had then escaped Warsaw. It was recovered after the war and was kept as a momento. Interesting story that had a ring of truth...

                Mike,
The colors on your SS smock and helmet cover are brilliantly vibrant. Thanks for sharing.
