Help with SS insignia

Just got this k98 bayonet with what appears to be period applied SS runes. The "button" looks identical to the SS personell's lapel pin, but is much larger. Anyone have any idea for the source of the runes?

I see that the ends of the runes are shaped to the cirkle ... just bogus

I will take a better shot of this and repost.

Arran had this as a boy ( aka ~20 years ago ) and got from a school teacher. If faked, it was done a long time ago.
