I have gotten two different stories concerning this French SS collar tab. I was told that the design was produced but never issued, but also told they were never produced, even in sample batches. Which is correct, folks?

The only one I ever liked is owned by Greg Domian. It is machine sewn of a heavier thread and is the only collar tab of it's type I have ever seen.

That's an interesting tab, though upside down according to the 1945 'SS Map'!
I wonder if it can have been a trial pattern? Certainly nothing like the usual late-war foreign volunteer pieces.Comment

Anything is possible. I have continually looked for these in any shape or form and other than the obvious reddick repro I have not seen another one like it in any type of period construction.

Greg and Bob- that tab is hand sewn, not machine embroidered, in my opinion...I don't think this affects its possible originality, though...

I have to agree with you on that. I too think it is hand embroidered but done so well that it could pass for machine.

So it looks like they were produced, though in apparantly very limited numbers. None of the "originals" I have seen looked anything like the one Greg posted so I guess my suspicions were justified. Glad I didn't waste any hard cash on 'em.
