    New post: Original Deschler Skull?

    Hello guys!

I wonder if this might be an original "D.&S.M" skull?

    Thank you in advance

Better photos would certainly help, but two things jump out at me right away which make me doubt its originality. The pins are certainly not what are normally found on this style. Also, the skull seems "shallow," lacking in the depth I would expect.

Thank you! I wonder if there are a lot known reproductions of this "D.&S.M" skull?

... there sure were a few guys with high expectations for this skull! Here is a link to the eBay auction:

I just checked out the listing and took a look at his other auctons. The same guy is selling this beauty:

I saw it, an awful fantasy cap But it would be interesting to know what you think about “D&S.M.” reproductions. Are there many known reproductions with a style similar to the skull in the auction?

I can't specifically recall having seen a D&SM fake before, but I can say that if I were going to fake a piece of SS metal cap insignia, I would probably select one of the rarer ones which was documented as original, but about which people had far less knowledge and of which there were far fewer surviving originals for comparison. That way, it would be harder for most people to tell if my copy ws an original or not. Also, considering brass casting is far easier and cheaper to set up than it is to tool up for a die strike operation, it would certainly be simpler and less expensive to select one of the styles which was known to have been made in tombac, for which a high-quality brass casting would be a fairly close representation.

              Just some thoughts.

Yes, I have seen fake D&SM skulls, cast from originals.
I can't say on this one. Need better photos. Pins are my concern as well.

                    Best, Chris
