SS 8 Year Long Service Medal

Is the design and background stippling correct for this medal? I don't have much in the way of background on these, and aren't able to pick out the fundemental differences from references and forum examples. If anyone has experience with these medals, I'd appreciate so help. Thanks - Robert

          Hi Robert

Die details tell me its reproduction.
The wreath around the SS has a particular characteristic commonly seen in a lot of reproductions.
If you look at the wreath binder, you will note how the RHS leaf is flush against wreath binder. It shouldnt be like this,it should have a stem or"tail" as i call it.

Also the lower arm RHS of the swastika looks to be touching the rim. There should be a gap. This looks like its actually poking into the lip of the rim.

Also the tear drop ring is way too "squat" looking.

          regards K

The stippling in the background does not look good to me. It should look more random and swirling, I dont exactly know how to describe it but yours looks too perfect and symmetrical all the dots lined up. Look at this one.

And also as stated above the leaves going into the wreath binder are not correct. This is what K is talking about.

The term "fingerprint"is usually used to describe the stipling.

Sayles medal is the way an original should be.

K and Sayle, I certainly see what you mean - as with all this tuff, the devil (and authenticity) is in the details. I appreciate you pointing out how this medal differs from originals - thanks! s/f Robert
