    SS Dachau Varian M-43 Questions

I am very familiar with the Dachau type M-43 caps. I had the opportunity to see a different type cap, some years ago, and wanted it for my collection. It has the standard Dachau type wool trapazoid and exposed cardboard under-visor, but has only one button and is of a very different material. It had standard M-43 pattern rear seams, unlike the Dachau found M-43 caps. If my memory serves me, the lining was a smooth gray rayon.

Is there any information on the Dachau type black trapazoid being used on any variation of M-43 caps? Were M-43 caps also made in Ravensbrook, like tunics?

    Thank you,
    Bob Hritz

Bob, if memory serves me I have seen one hat that I thought was standard Dachau, but was single bakelite button, pirate trap and higher quality wool. It actually stood up with a nice peak as opposed to the floppy Dachau wool. I will see the hat again later thie month and try to get you some good pictures. It is a stunning hat and far more exciting than the regular Dachau.

This seems to be a black trap on a green cap.......

      Good for target practice.

        Robin,

Thank you for the photo. The black, single button front, M-43 I saw was made of the same very coarse wool as that on the green hat you posted. I will ask the owner for photos (not a computer user) and see if I can get it posted soon.
