"He enlisted in August of 1943 and served until January of 1946. He was a rifleman in the 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Division, C Company, 2nd Platoon under 1st Lt.John W. Voller. After basic my father's unit landed at Anzio, went through France, the Forest, Siegrried Line, across the Rhine and into Eastern Germany. He was wounded in Italy and France. His unit was one of the first into liberate Dachau. After the war ended in Europe he had the option of going home on leave with his unit and then being sent to the Pacific or changing to a different unit and remaining in Germany. He chose the latter and stayed in the Dachau area."
Great suggestion Bob - thanks.
