Skull Opinion Please.

I got this from a friend who had it for many years. He felt that it is a very early fake. I looked through the forum and could not find one like it. Marked RZM 41. Most of the original finish was worn off exposing the brass/bronze(?) finish beneath. I refinished it for display purposes. Any opinions? Thanks.
