Chances are that you are right, Felix, but I see enough promise that I will reserve judgement until I see the reverse. I think this one could just be a really beat-up original.

Well, it's not cast, but the reverse is not like any unmarked original I know of.

Well, that was just my opinion judging from the front and I wont argue against you Brad since you for sure knows this field better than me.
I have never seen a botton like that. What poor detailing and no pebbling! Lets see what the outcome will be. Maybe SS collector or some one else can fill in.

I think it might be original, just very worn out.

I think that's how we will look after 60 years!

That's what I originally thought, but I have a problem with the loop. In addition to the copper-colored material (which is uncommon), I have never seen an original which had a space between where the two ends of the loop enter the back plate. Every original style I am aware of has the two ends touching at the point where they enter the back.

In my opinion it doesnt show wear. Heavy wear are to the high points and not overall even. There should atleast have been some sharp points still on the obverse in the hollows. Its not a cast we now have seen fur sure. But with that poor detailing, probably to imitate wear, Im very sceptic. Gut feeling just screams bad!
