    M1944 Tunic

I have an M1944 tunic that I've been hesitant to throw into "the spotlight". I've had the tunic for a number of years, and have finally reached the point where the possibility of crushing disappointment has been surpassed by the all consuming need to know.

If anyone would be willing to post a few photos, I'd be more than happy to pass them on.

    Thanks.

I could entertain doubts about it being Original SS, would like some pictures of the inside of the jacket for an opinion on that.

My apologies Chris, I thought you were done posting the pictures!!!

It can be so hard to make a determination on these based on photos. There are so many original variations that it can be hard to determine what is a sign of fakery and what is a result of late war manufacturing. To me, the lack of a flap and button closure under the collar is a red flag, especially as this seems like it would be an earlier tunic (with hook support holes and a lot of lining). The size stamp also is not what I would expect, though I defer to people with more experience handling SS M44 tunics.

Agreed. Although the lining material looks to be OK.
I think without better pictures of details of the interior, I would rate the coat itself as a "question mark"

Agreed. This piece needs to pass examination on two or three levels: original tunic? originally sewn original insignia? original stamps?

I'm just not getting past those wierd markings.

Keep in mind numbers of late WH M-44 tunics left the factory with no insignia at all, and these are virtually guaranteed to appear for sale with SS insignia at some point in their lifespans.

                            Sincerely,
                            Ray

Thanks guys. I'll take some additional detail photos if Chris wouldn't mind posting. Please advise if there are particular shots you'd like to see.

I agree with Ray; Is it an original tunic (SS or not), are the insignia good, are they originally attached if they are, and finally, I've never had a good feeling about those stamps.

I've read a number of things in this forum referring to insignia being "bedded" into the cloth, and for what it's worth, the sleeve eagle certainly seems to be.
