I have had these two sets of Collar tabs sitting in a box for years and have not asked anyone whether they are original or not. So I'm trying to thin out all my stuff and would like an opinion from the more knowledgeable folks here on this forum. I don't have a clue about SS items as it is not my collecting field. My suspicions are they are copies. Any help on them would be much appreciated and thanks in advance. Bill

Collar Tabs
Hello V Petz,
Unfortunatelly both collar tabs are reproductions. The Oberstgruppenfuhrer is very well made but its backing appears to be a type of card board. This is the first flag. The second is the remmanants od the RZM tag. Have you black lighted the front and this side? I will wager the paper glows like the sun coming up.
If you enter gruppenfuhrer into the search function, you will come across this thread: "Question on S.S. General's Collar tabs". It contains an in-depth discussion of senior SS rank with many pictures. Another entry would be "Thoughts on these Collar Tabs".
There was a genuine Oberstgruppenfuhrer tab, among other miltaria, posted about two months ago. I can not find it at the moment. Perhaps another member can remember what thread it was in. The chances of anyone possessing an Oberstgruppenfuhrer tab are very remote, in that only four individuals were awarded the rank. They were: Sepp Dietrich, Paul Hausser, Franz Xavier Schwartz, and Kurt Deluege. Deluege's insignia was on green background with gold embroidery.
The blank collar tab has incorrect aluminum piping (should be triple strand), is very elongated (not even close to SS tab shape) and the backing is also shakey. Enter SS Officer Collar Tabs in the search function to see the difference. Or, navigate the the estand and other queries about SS Officers tabs in the Insignia Forum.
Sincerely,
Charles BetzLast edited by C. Betz; 10-27-2006, 02:06 AM.
