    KZ waffenfarbe

Does anyone know, did the all KZ personel wear light brown waffenfarbe or was this color only used by guards but not other personels...? I have seen old photo of SS soldier, which served in KZ Auschwitz, he******180;s job was count and ship the moneys in to the Germany and if i remember right, waffenfarbe was white and SS runes in colar tabs, no totenkopf.
Is this real thing or am i so old allready that this is only mine own imagination
    Thanks.

As I understand it, between 1934 and 42 camp personnel would have been in the Totenkopfverbande (SS-TV) but after 42 became full members of the Waffen SS. I'm not certain but I think that's when the brown piping (hellbraun) was introduced or a short time later because combat WSS troops did not want to be associated with the konzentrationlager system. Having said that, I think it was pretty common for WSS, Heer and Polizei personnel who were no longer fit for active duty to be assigned to camp duties in the later part of the war.

I think this came up in another thread about what waffenfarben Mengele would have worn at Auschwitz. Since he was a doctor, he wore the dark-blue waffenfarben on his shoulder boards. And since he came from the Wiking Division previously, he probably maintained his runic collar tabs as well. Each camp had a Gestapo representative to keep the camp inmate records. I imagine they wore their regular uniforms with the blank collar tab and Allgemeine boards on both shoulders. Maybe some more members can contribute to this...

OK thanks. it******180;s hard to know all about these, who did what and where and what he wear and what kind of tabs and waffenfarbes, cause all kinds of TV documentarys/movies, those uniforms in documentarys and movies are, well everybody knows not really good and allways waffenfarbe is white. And original photos are hard to find. I just watch 6 episode long documentary of auschwitz and surprise every single tunic and cap has white piping.
But this forum is good place, if wants to find answers. thanks guys.
I dont know when this picture is taken but in Treblinka anyway, white waffenfarbe in their schirmm******252;tzen. NOTICE: empty colar tab!!
And if someone knows where to find pictures of KZ guard tunic, please i like to see it.

The double-armed swastika was for non-SS guards, you're mistaking this for the single-armed swastika as issued to,and worn by,the 19th Waffen-Grenadier Division der SS (Lettische 2).

Also coloured cap piping was (as has been widely discussed here and elsewhere) only authorised for a very short period of time ... allegedly prior to the introduction of the KL Hellbraun farbe. Straps were usually colour-piped caps very seldomly.

The picture you're thinking of is of an SS Mann who was probably in the Infanterie first, his name escapes me,but he was in the recent BBC Auschwitz series.

The photo of the 'Operation Reinhard' staff has probably been censored, with the runes being blacked out. The staff pictured were mostly (if not all) recruited from the T4 euthanasia hospitals. Christian Wirth and several others held Polizei ranks and were pictured wearing Ordnungs Polizei insignia they were later fully incorporated into the SS under Globocnik, based in Lublin.
