    Crusher bevo insignia

Could one of the experts please tell me when the bevo insignia began to be used on the Waffen SS "old style" nco field caps with the leather visors?

I believe the "Old Style" Service Caps that you're referring to had the cloth visors. The leather visors were on the "Crushers".

Yes, thanks for correcting me. The cap that inspired my question has a leather visor and bevo insignia. Also, it has no holes for a chin strap, and the crown has no wire stiffener, though there is some type of material between the outside wool cloth and the inner lining at the area behind the eagle which seems to be there in order to keep the peak upright. So I guess it would be more accurate to say that it is a semi crush-type. Could you tell me when they introduced this type of cap and when bevo insignia began to show up on these pieces? Thanks

Is the cap band velvet or wool badge cloth? I don't think that they were ever offical regulation for officers. I would say that the bevo eagles and skulls showed up around 1940. I'm sure others know for sure.

The cap band is wool badge cloth.

Could someone please provide me with further information on these leather-billed "crushers," i.e., year of introduction, design purpose, issue or both issue and private purchase, etc? Sorry for my ignorance, but while it seems like there is quite a bit of info. regarding the "old style" field caps with the cloth visor, there seems to be a derth of material regarding those with the leather bill. I'm intrigued by how these hats were obviously designed to be less formal than the standard Waffen SS nco caps with Vulkanviber visors and chinstraps but aren't so much so that they can be easily folded up and placed in a pack or pocket like their Heer counterparts.
