Most of the repros mess up the size and placement of the camo loops. This one looks correct compared to photos of the real thing. Any thoughts?

ss helmet cover
Good day to all;
I was 100% wrong the SS helmet cover that Tom R has is one of the best I have ever seen.I would have bet the house that it was100% fake.I had a friend come over with his helmet covers and give me a good lesson.As Lorenz said I need to study more and get those books.Lorenz did not tell me to shut my mouth(so to speak) and get away from the SS forum only that I was wrong(in a polite way) and I need more knowledge on the subject.He is right.But Erik the SS bully boy tried to bully me.I am 61 years old and a Viet Nam war vet and I will not be bullied by Erik from Norway or anybody else.Tom R you have a very nice helmet cover one the best out there.I like that decal on your SS helmet thats the way I like to see them.You can tell from a mile away that helmet decal is right as rain.
Enjoy your hobby

Dennis, I did not tell you to "shut up" or get lost from the forum, but told you that you should have some basic knowledge of an item before you give your own unsolicited negative remarks. If you are unsure, then it is better to keep quiet. I wish more people would take this into consideration before they post which is a general problem in most forums. I think that is a very valid response to your initial posting which severly ticked off 3 people that I know. The original owner in Norway is a close friend of mine, and I "brokered" (for the lack of a better expression) the cover to Tim who paid VERY serious money for it. You may then understand why I had to react when such negative remarks are being put forward without any serious foundation. I am however glad to see that you now agree with everyone else.

Dennis, Eric wasn't bullying you, nor was he telling you to "shut up". You made an incorrect statement, he corrected you, and suggested that you shouldn't be making such strong blanket statements about things that you apparently haven't studied up on. He was correct in both counts. Nothing offensive, he was just stating the truth.
I know sometimes it is uncomfortable being shown you are wrong about something, and it is easy to want to blame the messenger. But please folks (not just you Dennis, as you aren't the only one) , get a grip on it; this outraged reaction doesn't improve your image or make a wrong into a right. Don't take it so damn personally.

John, please don't bring things out of context and blow things out of proportion. First of all, I clearly stated that I had concerns about the other cover and that I did not claim it to be a fake, which is MILES away from stating what Dennis said "This helmet cover is a fake. Looks like the ones you get for reenactors. There are so many things wrong with this cover I don't where to begin." I am sorry if me having concerns is taken so negatively.
I also feel that my statement to Dennis is very far from "casting stones" and "slamming". I do believe that a blunt crude statement such as "This helmet cover is a fake" actually deserves much harsher response than I actually gave him. And how you can compare this to my response is beyond me.
Back to the cover you are refering to, I was as I mentioned on an extended trip far away from my references. I must admit that looking into this after returning I have found that you were right about the reinforcement strip. In fact, I have found several period photos showing it. But do we know if this was done at factory or repairs at depot level? But I have never encountered these odd size stamps in question. As I asked in the other thread, and I repeat: "I am open for any reliable information about these size stamps."
John, please take time and read the other thread again and tell me if you really think I was "slamming" that cover? It upsets me that I cannot raise questions without it being taken negatively and as an insult.

Hi Dennis,
Dont worry, about be wrong, in the SS items we have always to improve our knowledge, unfortunately all days we have to be worried for the new fakes on the market.
Unfortunately the request of original items is most of the disponibility on the market and also the prices are very hight...you understand.
Fortunately now we have some very interesting books with very good pictures and also some Forums like this that are very important to improve our knowledge day for day.... personally I learned a lot in this Forum and day for day I discover something of new...also you can found to buy or trade some interesting pieces, impossible to add in collection otherwise.
Only a little of patience.
Have a nice collecting Dennis and Honour at the War Vet!

SS helmet cover
Good day to all;
As I said I was wrong and do need more info.But I thought I was right.Many years ago as a kid I would go to New York in the summer and work for my uncle who was a cartoonest named Paul Terry(Mighty Mouse).You must understand that I was only 13 years old when I went to see him I worked my butt off.In the summer of 1958 my uncle asked me if I wanted to go to Hollywood and work for the summer? Well a 13 year old kid in Hollywood .My parents said yes and that was that.My uncle told me that I would be staying with his good friend Loretta Young and that she was going to get me a jod at one of the film studios doing odd jobs.To make a long story short when I got there Loretta(that's what she asked me to call her) called Lucille Ball and I went to work at Paramount.Mrs Young took me over to Melrose ave and I got a job in the costume ware house.Now get this I had to hand stamp the PM logo on all types of costumes.In the ware house were boxes and boxes of Nazi helmets,uniforms,daggers(not too many)medals and helmet covers.I was the guy who put the PM logo on all that stuff.I had just started collecting German helmets so I would get the SS helmet covers for my helmets.While I was doing my job I would study the covers as just something to do(I had no Idea what a fake SS helmet was) in case I would run in to others while collecting.Most of the helmet covers I ran across had numbers on them like 2 or 3.I was around them all summer and took 6 or 7 for me.I did not steal them I bought them or worked extra hours for them.The people at the studio did not mind letting them go as they were into the Nazies wearing the Allgemeine SS type uniforms.I saw some great uniforms get cut down and cheap crap ins. that were made in Mexico put on them. To make a long story short I have had SS helmet covers and have seen SS helmet covers many times over the years some good and a lot of fakes.This time I was wrong thats all I can say.
Oh by the way Mrs Young had a great collection of WW2 items that were sent to her by GI's as thanks for here War bond work.I wonder what happend to all that stuff.As a final note Mrs. Young was the best friend a 13 year old could have.
So you see I have been around SS helmet covers and others it just has been a long time and I will take all of your advise and do some catching up on my studies.So if any of you out there have a SS helmet cover stamped Parmount Studios on it I am the one that put that stamp on it .
Enjoy your hobby
