    Help with unknown Pin/Badge

    Hi everyone,

A friend of mine picked up this pin last week and is trying to find out what it is. I know it came out of a vet grouping at least 3 years ago. It appears to be a lapel or cap pin, but for what? The rune leads me to believe HJ or SS so I figured I'd start here. Thanks for any assistance in advance.WR Jim

Very interesting Jim. With the single rune in the end I would go with Hitlerjugend (the organization and not the division). Not something you'd wear to church in Germany, eh?

Thanks for the reply.I tend to think it might be HJ or DJ too. I'll post it in the political section maybe someone recognizes it.WR Jim

In heraldry there a technique called "canting" -- punning -- in which a certain design somehow identifies the owner of the shield. Such as a skeleton key being called "dietrich" in German (ergo, 1LSSAH used a skeleton key for its divisional marking).

I'm wondering aloud if the pin could be a "canting" for the SS-Panzer Division "Hitlerjugend" -- it uses both elements of the divisional symbol: a single sig-rune and a skeleton key.

Thanks for letting me think out loud.
