Hello all:
I have a few questions regarding an SS TK that I have had for five years.
First of all, I was told it was a fake because of the RZM 5/8 on the rear upper left of the TK. I could except that, but on page nine of a book titled GERMAN INSIGNIA OF WORLD WAR TWO by Bishop and Warner, there is an exact TK and the RZM of 5/8, in the exact same spot as mine. If mine is indeed a fake,
would their's be one also? Another problemI have is this, If I am correct, all early TKs were silver washed, my TK seems to have 100% of the silver all over it! Why do I think it is silver, because it get's tarnished, especialy on the reverse, where it dosn't get handled. I decided to see for myself and used silver polish on the rear, all the brown came off on the cotton swab, leaving
a sparkling silver finish. So, on to the front, same thing, absolutely dazziling.
Looks brand new in fact. One other thing, the RZM is a tad hard to read, since it is raised and not punched in, it appears to be filled with silver, like it pooled
there. The prongs are flat and thin with a chisel end. Any comments would be appreciated. As to where it came from, a collector friend sold it to me back then
for $35.00 as he was going through a divorce and needed cash, he get's most of his stuff from vet's and vet's families. Do I have a nice fake or what?
Thank's geopop
