A bit of advice: Collecting SS, it is an expensive hobby and there are a lot more fakes than originals, many of them quite good. One mistake could be very costly relative to what I am guessing is a modest income at 15. Therefore, I recommend girls over dusty old insignia. If there is any money left over after dating expenses and you still insist on jumping into the deep water of SS collecting, the first thing you should buy is a book. The second thing you should buy is another book!

I absolutely agree with the above comments. At least when you buy a good book on collecting SS items you know exactly what you are buying...a book on SS collecting !

I don't really consider myself an SS collector as such,I only own one complete SS uniform, but do yourself a favour and never buy anything until it has been studied on this forum. I'm not ashamed to admit I have lost a few thousand dollars buying crap before I found this forum.

Finally go for quality and not quantity, one scruffy old sleeve eagle that is real is worth 20 high end fakes.

Actually, the books are great to learn about the SS and the uniforms and insignias. I've found many times that fakers don't do their homework and ignore historical details, which can be used to trip them up as well. So it's good to know, historically-speaking, what is right and what isn't. Learn the difference between an Army breast eagle and an SS sleeve eagle, etc.

That's right, Der Totenkopf, you too can avoid the challenges and disappointments of real human interaction. Social development isn't all its cracked up to be. You will be much happier at 40 if, having avoided female temptation, you are still living in your parents house surrounded by the clothing items and accoutrements of long-dead Germans and enjoying all of the personal satisfaction and fulfillment that can bring!
