Complete collar with SS runes in metal - Opinions !!!

    Hi folks.

I got this complete collar today and it has been cut from a SS uniform once.
The SS runes are sewn on to the collarpatch and they are in metal (magnetic).
The pips are also sewn on to the collarpatch.
For me it seems that it has been cut from a Latvian SS uniform as they very often used metal SS runes.
The complete collar and collarpaches has old combat patina it seems, but I am open for opinions ! Is it the real thing ???

    Regards
    Derek

Hi Derek, I don't know much about Baltic made rune collar tabs but IMO from what I can tell from the images it looks original, I will wait to see what the experts say.

it is everybodys own thing what he like and what not, but I think a little bid field action and the runes would get lost. For my opinion somebody got to much time at home ...

First thing that came to my mind: why would a soldier want to drill holes in pips (in order to sew them on) if there were plenty good pips around.
Plus, I don't like how the whole collar is constructed.

...okay, just by looking at the pictures and not reading any comments yet (I will read them) to have an open mind, why are the metal pieces well coroded but the thread used to stitch the tabs on and the tabs themselves for the most part in excellent shape?

...and why are the pips minty?

and....dirty collar + minty pips + clean tabs + clean thread + really sloppy stitching on the rank tab, I mean what up with that back and forth bottom stich there on the rank tab? + corroded zinc runes ...I think the fakers had an off day on this one, just my opinion and everybody has one, John

Hi Demil, I have seen dozens of original Latvian photos with metal runes, but never seen the tabs with sewed runes and pips. Also I have never seen the tabs sewed by white threads. And I dont like that all parts of these tabs are in different conditions.

                              Hi all.

I can agree with you in your conclution.
It could look good at the first view but when you study the different components, some seems to be in more used condition than others. And the SS runes would easy get lost from the collatpatch in some small combatuse.
I will send this collar back to it owner as a fake
