Hi Chris,
Is the area circled in red heavy knap wear? Does it run into the insignia? Or does it look like the skull was sewn over it?? I would expect the insignia to be worn a bit in this area if it does run into it.
I like the way the insignia is sewn on the other example that you posted.

The strongest spotlights I have are on the ceiling (the halogen lamps I have would have burn the insigna right away), so not only I almost broke my neck taking this pic, but if someone would have come in at that moment, I would have surely passed for an unsane guy.
So, enjoy this pic keeping in mind the risks I took.Last edited by Edelweiss; 06-29-2006, 09:32 AM.

There are many things that (for me) are a tough call having only pictures to go by. This hat might well fall into that category.
To me, there might be some concerns over the insignia application, not regarding the "flatness" but rather the "all to careful" sewing of the insignias. Your post #30 depicts, to me, a much more typical "assembly line" application in which the sewer was not at all concerned about "marring" the insignias when applying them. And I grant, this is far from a "kiss of death"
Still without being able to have the hat in hand, I might be somewhat skeptical.
