Perry & Glenn, I did my best to find a clue of that on the lining ; I double checked with the UV (insignas, liner...), nuts. I checked closely at a possible opening, no more luck on that ; a total replacement of the liner can also be imaginated, but it would involve so many different parts of the cap inside and out that it would be noticeable somewhere for sure...

Here are some views ; the stitching of the liner in front of the cap :

Now let's take a look at the stiching at the bottom of the liner (the side part of the liner is at the top of the pic) :

The optical characteristics of the cloth are really a pain in the butts for photos, but no choice...

Here's where it reaches the rear of the cap ; I won't inflict you pics of the rear vertical stitching of the liner, but I'm "sorry" to say that it doesn't give more clues of a possible rework than its front counterpart...

As an end - and for the pleasure of the eyes - another beautiful photo in an attempt to catch the maker's mark :

                      Hi Folks,

While I don't have anything useful to add regarding the authenticity of the cap in question, I just wanted to say that I always enjoy observing this type of investigative 'detective work' in action!

In a way, it's paradoxical, because we all complain about fakes and fakers, and rightfully so, but after all, if there were absolutely no fakes out there, would the hobby of TR collecting be nearly as interesing, or gratifying as it is when one is able to acquire a truly good piece, and be able justify it as such for all the right reasons?

Maybe it's a mundane observation (which probably has been made many times before), but it occured to me again while reading this post.

                      Tim

On areas without a lining like the side eagle I put a VERY strong light on one side and look at it from the other side , if there were previous lines of stitching holes not visible to the naked eye they often will only show up this way. It has saved me a few times.

I dunno EW...looks like you might just have to come to grips with the fact that this is a very nice original you are stuck with! If unsure Id be VERY glad to take it off your hands! VERY NICE!!!!!

Any chance of getting a pictures of the front & side with the flaps unbuttoned and pulled down?

I would agree with Glenn on this one. The way the insignia has been applied doesn't look quite right. They are very flat to the cap as well, usually they have the backing material tucked under to pad them out a bit.

I agree Ben, but can we take this as a strict rule ?
Here's another on an officer's cap, quite flat too and no "padding" despite the different stitching :
