No doubt you paid less for this badge than you might have to pay nowadays. I am fairly certain this one is authentic, in fact, in contrast to the bulk of what one sees hereabouts. Others here, especially colleague Hritz or Toncar, are masters of these badges. This badge raises a question, as well. I had thought that the enlisted badges carried the Hundertschaft #, as well. Or the insignia indicating service in the camp administration, i.e. staff, or in another specialty. Ergo, the bulk of enlisted ranks would have served in line units, more or less. Were the Totenkopfverbaende enlisted badges with the numerals etc. phased out on a given date? 1938 or 1939? This is an arcane question, I know, but one that has been on my mind by dint of various pieces of evidence. By the way, if I am in error as to the authenticity of this piece, bitte um Entschuldigung...

A very fine collar tab in excellent condition. You have chosen well and should be pleased to have an original.

Are you willing to tell us how much you paid for it in the early 80's? I'm sure we could all use a good cry.

              Ich schaetze.....

I think the Whammond site sold a pair SSTV of this exact type or a single for some sum in the neighborhood of between three and four thousand dollars, did it not? I also think Shea has one or had one, for even more money. There are figures here who specialize in precisely these regalia. They can answer your question most effectively. In fact, Shea has a put together SSTV Thueringen uniform on his site for only USD 14,000. You can do the math from this piece, too. SSTV material is somewhat akin to cat nip, I guess.

The Collector's Guild recently sold one exactly like this (but with a tag) for $3,000.

Now tell me you paid $25 for it in 1980.

I paid 200.00 dollars for it and he had another that was silmilar to it. I wish that I had bought them both. I have four other tk collar tabs that I will be showing. None for sell. Thank you all for your input.

A very nice tab. I picked up one similar at the SOS a few years ago (2003) for $1,000. Things can still be had somewhat reasonably if you can get off the beaten path.

I wonder too the progression of the numbered tabs to non numbered, I have several SS runic tabs in my collection where the 1,2,3 were removed, but I have not seen a TK tab where the number was ever removed. Then again I imagine most of these guys ended up in the meat grinder of the Ost Front...
