    Holland Visor?

A friend of mine bought this back in Oct. 1986. It was purchased from "Herman Historica" item #3939. He said he bought it from there "when these German auction houses were affordable".

I have a picture of the page of the listing. It reads "SCHIRMMUTZEN u. KOPPEL f. die Hollandische Schutzstaffel. Im Koppel RZM-Stempel. Schirmmutze ohne Abzeichen,\. Schwarzes Tuch. gruner Bund, weibe Vorstobe.2335."

This cap is in my possesion for the moment and I can answer any questions or take additional pictures if needed. I cannot find any reference to it anywere. I personally do not like this piece, If I am wrong it won't be the first time or the last!

I sure would like some opinions on this cap.

                Not anyone has an opinion?

I know it is not of 3rd reich era and was relunctant to even post this thread. This gentelman insists this piece is authentic. I cannot make my point clear to him that it is not.

Is the piece in question East German?

                Comments please, thank you.

A nice old cap for a music band or something like that, but it has nothing to do with (Dutch) SS

                    Hi Jeff,

Sorry I can’t provide you with information about what kind of visor this is.
I can only say what it is not: it is definitely not Dutch / Germanic SS.
I searched all my period published material about Germanic SS uniforms and the green band simply doesn’t exist.
So I agree fully with Necker and your initial feelings on this.

I also agree with your feeling that it is from East German origin: I have seen those on markets where some gents offer hundreds of almost similar visors.
There is also a complete black visor with white piping.
Still I don’t consider them as to hard to tell from the real thing: the top is much too wide when compared with a German WWII visor.
Although the one you show isn’t so much ‘overdone’ as the black & white visor I saw.
I always had the idea the Sovjets / East Germans had plans to use their visors as aircraft carriers.
But I haven’t found any proof of this…

The complete absence of the sweat shield is of course a little suspicious: was it worn off or simply removed because it was obviously made of plastic?

Have you tried a little stitching investigation with UV-light?
Maybe that can help to convince the non-believers.

I hope this information is of any use and otherwise: let us hope someone better informed turns up!

                    Regards,

                    Martin

                      Hello,

I collected Soviet Naval Infantry for awhile, and while the band looks replaced, the main body material, shape and size, liner and bill are identical. It looks like a remanufactured Soviet Navy hat to me.

                        Thank you.
Martin, I did not check this cap under UV-lighting, thank you for the suggestion.
I didn't think of it, I guess I didn't have the ambition to go that far with it. I hate it when people get burned. Although, this cap does not glow.

Robert, I think you are correct. That must be were I have seen this "low cut" style of hat before - Soviet type hat.

                        thanks again, Jeff
