    SS Visor eagle

Well as you know I've had a bad M1/52 eagle on my SS visor but the eagle has been replaced with a good one (I hope). I've looked on this forum and compared mine with other known originals and I am a bit more sure this time.

Anyway, here are the pics and I hope it all .

    Best regards,

    Kris.

Looks like an original one Kris. However, condition isn't the best and I think your visor deserves better.

            echt

The cap badge is fine. The condition is typical, and the patina fits the whole. Deschler Hoheitszeichen are rare, as well. I would be very happy to have such a cap badge, in fact. The Neusilber badges are very hard to find and surely inflated in price. Look at the mint Zimmermann of mid-war make on Shea's site.

Absolutely Donald, it's just that the Deschler TK on Kris's cap is in such nice condition, this eagle would look a bit shaby in comparison, just my opinion.

I do take your point, but in my fruitless search for these badges, the piece above rates fairly high. Secondly, in my checkered experience, the cap badges often do not match each other, and the finish of the Totenkoepfe often does not wholly match the Hoheitszeichen. I have seen many examples of such a mis-match in integral material, that is, caps with badges that are original to them, and the things are mismatched. Further, this Neusilber alloy corrodes quite nicely. Think of the passage of seven decades. It reminds me of the state of my inner organs.

Will you let me know where you found this - I've been lloking for EXACTLY the same type of eagle in EXACTLY the same condition! Wonderful piece . . . .

Thanks for the on the eagle. I actually looks better in real life than on the pictures I took yesterday evening. The silver finish is all there but shows some light corrosion.
Anyway, I'll put it on my visor this weekend and take some better pictures.

Why are some eagles vaulted and other's aren't ? Does it depend on what kind of visor one has (Teller or Sadle shape) or does this not matter at all ?

                      Best regards,

                      Kris Simoens.
