    The paper name tag would not have fitted the original slot of the diamond, to long. If original, the exposed edge would not be so sharp edged and un-effected. This is just my observation though.

      Even $4500 seems a fair value for this comparatively common cap by today's standards. An officer version, at 3X the money if you can find one, is a real bargain - EM's outnumbered officers by 25-30:1 during the war, no question. But a nice cap, price aside.

                            Ben, that's the same eagle but pictures were taken in daylight ! Most of the silver is present and there is some minor corrosion on the right wing.

                            I think skull and eagle look good together
