    SS Cap Eagle - M1/72 - Fishing Weight?

    Hi Everyone,

    I have this cap eagle in my possession and believe it is a repro. In fact, given that I can write with it, I supsect it is lead. It will also flex with only slight pressure. The prongs are sharp enough to cut my throat too. Also, notice the total lack of reverse detail: indicative a casting?

    Anyway, could somebody who owns a genuie M1/72 eagle, please give their opinion, so that I might conclusively end a dispute as to the eagle's authenticity.

            Hi Toby, when I first saw this one I thought that it could be ok but now I'm leading towards it being wrong.
            BTW I believe that the eagle discussed here

            is exactly the same as your one. It's a shame that the thread fizzled out before a conclusion was reached.

              Many thanks for replying.

              @ Ben - the worst thing about this eagle is that it has no strength whatsoever, i.e. it will yield to the slightest pressure, which I believe explains the repair. I just wonder when the repair was made. Of course, I wonder too when the eagle was made!

                if its as heavy and as soft as you say then its probably been cast in low melt alloys,

                      Well from my limited knowledge the bending is a huge red flag.

                      But I never understood that test. I mean it works with stuff you own, but can you imagine using it at a sellers stand or something. "it broke in half sir that means its a fake" I am sure they will accept your word for it
