    Lssah Photo

I thought I would share this picture of a LSSAH Rottenfuhrer as it has some interesting points. 1. Note the poorly hand stiched collar patches. 2. The collar patches are far more heavily used than the tunic, suggesting economies in insignia issue. 3. The nice NCOs crusher with BeVo insignia.

    Cheers

    Mark,
Very interesting picture. It confirms something that is as old as military service itself. That is that insignia is transferred between uniforms, whether for economical, availibility or personal preferences, reasons.

In my own military experience it was the rule that well worn (old, indicating long service and experience) were transferred to newly issued uniforms. This is something that collectors frown upon (even make a big issue out off) but was a reality in the field.

The example in your picture is quite possibly transferred from a worn out early war tunic to the m43 the soldier is wearing, hence the stitching and worn look to them. Jacques

we must remember that uniforms worn in the field
ended up covered in lice etc, and would often be
taken back cleaned and then re-issued so to keep ones own insignia
it could and would be removed and re-stitched to replacement
