    Totenkopf with Edelweiss?

A friend of mine found this portrait in an second hand book shop today!

You could see the edelweiss badge on his had. Maybe a TK-member transfered to a SS montain division?

    edelweiss

Note that its a metal Army style edelweiss, not SS cloth type! Although not the norm, sometimes army types were adopted by SS-GJ, due to shortages of the proper type... This mix of insignia (TK + edelweiss) could be explained by a transfer. (former SS-GJ serving in a TK unit, like temporary assignment as a camp guard, while recouperating from wounds?) Who knows? Neat picture! Thanks for sharing! Nick

I have seen pictures of members of the Printz Eugen division wearing the TK collar tab.

One of the TK Standarten was turned into a regiment and incorporated into the Nord Division if I'm not mistaken, although I would have expected to see an SS-TV styled collar tab instead of the later type.

I agree, years ago this type of tab was on the whole dismissed by collectors because as there was a lack of period photos of it being worn, in the past years there have been several now showing this tab and also one picture showing the tk emblem cut from a tab and used on a cap.

this is an interesting photo all round thanks for sharing it
              cheers

SS Totenkopf Standarte 6 and SS Totenkopf Srandarte 7, which later became the 6th SS (mot) Infantry Regiment and 7th SS (mot) Infantry Regiment, respectively, were the cadre for the 6th SS Mountain Div "Nord".
Nafziger has it formed as of 2/28/41, that might be an explanition for the horizontal TK Tab, just maybe. Sonny
