Karl. From what I can see, it looks like an original busby skull.Value about £200 GBP.

Basically, there was no difference.Officers bought their own uniforms, so could pay for things like a better finish.....e.g. plating, frosting, etc., but the basic manufacture was the same.

Why existed a big and a small pattern Leibhusaren busby skull ? Do you know the reason (is the reason a difference between 1./2. regiment ????) ? Thank you!<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

                          Paul Pietsch.....

Paul Pietsch's book on the uniforms of the Prussian army contains much of this, actually. The little skull was worn on the cloth peaked caps, while the large skull was worn on the Pelzmuetze. I am sure there was considerable variation in these, as Meister Lumsden has indicated. I also believe that with the onset of war, one resorted to lessen metals in these, too.

One was for the busby, and the smaller was for the shako, but they were often changed around. The even smaller ones were for the cap. The one shown is a busby skull for all ranks. No difference between 1st and 2nd Leib, although the 2nd sometimes had gold skulls on the dress cap.
