    armband

i bought this of a young student who had been given this and some other bits and pieces by his family who have passed them down to him so he can sell them to help him through university, and to be really honest i didnt give a great deal for it so if it is a copy it was done a while back ,and isnt a new piece and it seriously does smell old,but i am no expert but thought i would let you know that it wasnt off a dealer by any means, thanks for all the inputs

I have looked at your photos and to be honest the first does not look over exposed to me and there seems to be no sign of any staining to the white circle, yet the photo in post 12 shows staining any one else notice this?
      cheers

            armband

i realy dont know why the other pics looked so bright i have taken multiple pics to try and get the way it really looks i have even taken the closer up ones with my camcorder, the 1 where it looks stained was took without the flash and it isnt stained it just really does look grubby and i havent been throwing stuff on it to age it that just is really the way it came as i bought it,and member simon102nd can vouch for that as he has seen it ,regards sscrooge

Here's the thing: These are commonly and easily reproduced becuase of their simpliciity and the wide variety of materials used in original construction - why worry about your rip when you can buy a vetted example for under $400, and a dead-on tagged one for $4-450? Really- there are probably thousands of originals around - their value reflects demand, not supply. If you want a correct one, buy from a reputable dealer, and save your detective work for something with more upside potential.

I'm a bit late putting my input in I don't like the varied gaps around the edge of the swastika in relation to the edge of the white circle. I have seen some cruddy examples of these in the past, this is not that cruddy but I don't like those varied gaps.

HI Guys...I agree they make really good fakes of these...sscrooge have you used a blacklight on the piece and tested any of the fabric?

Sometimes you do find these in minty shape...it is put together in the right way, but then again so are the better copies. The lack of the tag is not a perfect indicator as sometimes they used the paper tags which fall off, John

I'll stick with what Curt said, that the white is not yellow enough, there is a definite yellow that appears from 65 years of aging. I'm not even 100% sure that the white material is right. Sonny

                      armband

hi,yes i did put it under a uv light and nothing glowed,i read in a book that only the early war ss armbands had the rzm tag,and i have seen some examples where the white circle touches the black edging ribbon and some that dont, why i thought it could be real is because of who i bought it off and it does smell and it truly isnt as white as on them pics,oh and forgot to mention the circle has gone a bit stiff, and i know i should stick to reputable dealers but at the end of the day they must origionate from vets familys and other sources surely, and i have found out that not all dealers are trustworthy and this site saved me from buying a ss helmet off 1 infact he had 3 fake ss helmets and still has/regards sscrooge

Actually, now I am becoming more convinced it is a fake. And since these are getting so good (congratulations on getting the ribbing in the right direction, Pakistanis), I hesitate to tell exactly why in a public forum.

This is now getting to be like the SS dress badge where no one will post a pic of a genuine reverse. In the future, everyone please post extreme closeups like those above and we can just give a yes or no.

I am sure they are working on aging these right now.

And I agree with Gary that we seem to have 2 different armbands here.
