    Who is making these fakes?

I have seen this exact style of visor pop up on escam at least 10 times in the past few months. Is this a Latvian or just an older Janke? Well it looks like some of the bidders don't know. I sent the customary "It is fake" out but they don’t listen.

There's not much you can do. A fool and his money are soon parted! Fact of life! Or you'll end up trying to warn off a guy and turns out to be a shill bidder so the seller (same person of course) comes down on you like a ton of concrete telling you to mind your own business. Here you are trying to do a good thing and get slam dunked!

Gegen Dummheit kaempfen die Goetter vergebens....

This seems to have the well know 58 cm Baltic cranium, but I am sure such a generalization is unfair to the Balts, all the same. Fake black SS caps have existed since the middle of the 20th century. The real officer's caps are seldom seen, hence the point of reference is more problematic. It seems there are many more fakes of these now than ever before, and I have been watching for a while. Sapere aude. Cf the Ingram cap posted here six months ago by way of comparison.

Hell - I must be in the wrong business. Someone paid $1500 for this junk.

I should start selling fakes on ebay too. But then I could not sleep at night.

I don't think the guy that sold it is having any problems sleeping.

Well the warning kind of worked. Two of the guys I warned thanked me and stopped bidding. Then a whole new idiot comes in and buys it. It is very tempting to sell fakes on Ebay but I also could not sleep at night. Just think you buy three of these for a $100, sell them on Ebay and buy a real Alg visor. I asked one guy I warned (who wanted a free lesson on how to tell good from bad), why in the world would you bid that much on something you know nothing about? His answer, “I just wanted a Nazi hat”. You almost can’t feel sorry for that kind of person.

If he's not all that discriminating about it then refer him to one of the reproduction sellers. He obviously doesn't know good from bad anyway. He might as well purchase a reproduction, and for a hellva lot less.

Like I said, you just cannot prevent this from happening and another member here is right... the seller of this atrocity sleeps very well in a nice house and a nice warm bed with a babe next to him! But I have FAITH that someday it will catch up with him... we may not see it, but it will happen. Every dog has his day!

Maybe this phrase would go nicely on my head-stone. Sayle F and I can make good use of this saying. I have never understood how to use this impulse (headwear addiction...) to monetary profit, though. Wie dumm von mir....to be sure, I derive no monetary profit form explaining why a fake is something other than authentic, in fact. Sapere aude.

I was just joking about the “free advise” part but Donald you can make money. You just need to write a book on how to detect fake visors. I for one would definitely buy one.

My friend, thank you. However, others have seized the high ground on this front and I cede it to them avec plaisir. I am so absorbed with my actual profession that I have no real time for much else. Viel Sammlerglueck.
